Professor Demo Kalla is a distinguished African dairy development expert and livestock policy strategist with over two decades of experience advancing innovation, productivity, and sustainability across dairy and livestock value chains. He serves as Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence on Dairy Research and Development at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University,Bauchi Nigeria where he leads nationally significant initiatives in climate-smart dairy systems, feed resource innovation, and technology-driven livestock development.

A respected voice in Nigeria’s livestock transformation agenda, Professor Kalla plays influential roles in shaping policy and sector reforms. He is a member of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms, serves on the National Dairy Policy Drafting Committee, and is a Council Member of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science. He has also contributed to national efforts in animal genetic resources management and the development of dairy feed standards.

Professor Kalla has served as a consultant and technical expert to leading national and international development organizations, delivering strategic advisory services, programme design, and policy support across Africa. His consultancy engagements include collaborations with the World Bank, USAID, GIZ, African Union, ECOWAS, PwC, and ADT Consulting, among others. His work is widely recognized for bridging research, policy, and practice, delivering context-specific and impact-driven solutions for sustainable livestock development, and contributing to high-level policy development, value chain assessments, climate-smart livestock programming, and institutional strengthening initiatives.

Professor Kalla is a Fellow of several professional societies, reflecting his scholarly contributions, leadership, and enduring commitment to advancing sustainable livestock systems in Nigeria and across Africa.
