Honourable Dr. Anxious Jongwe Masuka
Hon Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka is the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.
He holds a BSc Agric (Hons) and a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil), both obtained from the University of Zimbabwe.
Hon Dr Masuka has extensive agricultural experience spanning more than 32 years, supported by a strong scientific background. He has worked as a researcher at the Forestry Commission, a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, and an agricultural researcher at the Tobacco Research Board.
He is a prolific science writer with over 130 scientific publications and has authored, co-authored, and edited more than 29 books and handbooks on forestry, agriculture, policy, and strategy. His agricultural publications cover cotton, potato, goat, sugar, livestock, traditional grains, and maize production, as well as topics such as climate-smart agriculture, the green economy, import substitution, and agricultural financing. He also recently co-authored a book on Larger Fungi of Africa South of the Sahara.
Hon Dr Masuka was a Founding Fellow of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences in 2004. He has also served as Chairman of the Africa Mycological Association and Vice President of the World Mycological Association.
Throughout his career, he has received numerous management awards. In 2015, he was selected by the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe as one of the 50 most influential Zimbabweans (non-politicians). He has been recognized as CEO of the Year, Empowerer of the Year, Service Champion of the Year, Outstanding Businessman of the Year, and for Innovation and Excellence, among many other accolades.
He is an ardent student of strategy and is widely regarded as a transformative and practical agri-business leader in Zimbabwe. In addition, he is a successful farmer and entrepreneur.These achievements contributed to his appointment as Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, where he has also received Best Performing Minister awards.
