David Hambrook, Head of International Dairy for Development, Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society David spent his formative years working with Jersey cattle on his family’s dairy farm in Sussex, England. He first came to Jersey in 1983 to work with the renowned Blanc Pignon herd, before serving as National Field Officer for the UK Jersey Cattle Society from 1995 to 2000. He later returned to the Island, where he has now been with the Society for over twenty-five years.

Drawing on his extensive knowledge of the global Jersey breed, David transitioned into a role focused on international development. Since 2016, he has led the Society’s Jersey Overseas Aid-funded Dairy for Development programmes, dedicating much of his time to advancing sustainable dairy systems. David’s dairying experience is wide ranging, from hands-on herd management to delivering technical services at farm, industry and national levels, with a particular focus on the role of the Jersey cow. In Africa, he and his Dairy for Development team have delivered projects across Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia and Rwanda. In 2019, the African Jersey Forum (AJF) was launched, supported by Jersey Overseas Aid. In addition to his development work, David plays a key role in the Society’s livestock services. He serves as General Manager of Jersey Island Genetics Ltd, which provides technical services to the majority of Jersey’s dairy farms and is actively involved in the export of cattle genetics.
